2011 - 2012 Schedule
A Comparative Study of Christianity, Judaism and Islam
Sundays at 9:30am in the Parlor
(attendance at eight classes required)

***Please Note***
By now, eighth-graders should be nearly complete with Sunday morning classes,
and should be preparing to participate in regular church attendance.
- October
9:
Orientation, World Religions Pre-Test. If the student achieves 100%, he/she
fulfills his Sunday morning requirement (it hasn't happened in over ten years!).
- October
16:
Reading from Genesis 16 through the beginning of 21. Talk about faith and
covenant with God.
- October
23:
Reading from Genesis 21 and 22. Look at basic beliefs and practices of Islam;
trace those practices back to Bible readings.
- October
30:
Visit from our friend, Imam Nasif Muhammed. The Imam shares his personal faith
journey as well as his lifestyle as a Muslim in Fairfield County.
- November
6:
Reading from Exodus 12 and 34 and from Deuteronomy 29. Look at basic practices
of Judiasm and relate to readings; explore the evolution of ideas about God from
Abraham to Moses.
- November
13:
Review the Old Testament: the five scrolls of the Torah; Deuteronomistic
history; "Chronicler" history; stories, Psalms, and poetry; and the Prophets.
Understand dates of Bible in the context of world history. Explore Jewish
festivals and the Biblical events they celebrate.
- November
20:
Visit from Jewish homemaker to discuss practice of Judiasm in Fairfield County
(not yet confirmed).
- November
27:
Thanksgiving break
- December
4:
Review of Moses, Passover, the Last Supper and the Christian practice of
communion.
- December
11:
Break for Christmas Pageant

(Saturday):
Make-Up Class,
10:00am, Parlor
- December
18:
Special guest appearance: Tom Cross entertains with a lesson about the
celebration of Christmas around the world.
