Tutoring at the
George Washington Carver Center, Norwalk
Wednesday afternoons, 3:30-5:30pm
The Carver Center’s after school programs
support the educational and recreational dreams of at-risk children in Norwalk.
The children range from grades K – 12 and are primarily from single-parent,
low-income families. The help and attention they receive from volunteers can
directly affect how the children feel about themselves and their grades.
For the second year, our congregation has the
opportunity to tutor these children every Wednesday from 3:30 – 5:30 pm.
We will also lead a math club for students who need extra help on Wednesday
from 4:00-4:30pm. Our volunteers have made some meaningful friendships with
many of the Carver students. This year we hope to plan some special events and
field trips to strengthen our bonds.
Come help to make a difference in the life of
children who live very near to us, yet experience a completely different way of
life. Volunteers can meet on Wednesdays at church at 3:00pm and carpool
together, or meet at GWCC at 3:30pm. Please call Connie Gross at
966-2651, ext. 6 to volunteer or sign up on
Service Ministries bulletin board in Smith Hall. Click
