Read: Psalm 8

When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that You have established; what are human beings that You are mindful of them, mortals that You care for them? Psalm 8:3–4

The earth is a speck of dust swirling in the midst of a luminescent universe. Human activity throughout our entire history isn’t loud or expansive enough to cause the slightest ripple in the cosmos. We are small creatures. Our lives are a brief flicker of enmeshing energy and matter. We are entirely forgettable life forms.

Yet God has taken note of us. Scripture attests that creation was birthed in order to produce us. The whole cosmic plan was designed for God to be in relationship to us. How amazing and wonderful is that? We are small creatures who are very special to God.

Can you feel both small and special?

Lord, if I think too much about it, my cosmic insignificance deeply unsettles me. I dont like to think of myself as insignificant and forgettable. I want my life to be as significant to You as it feels to me. I struggle to believe and understand why in Your grandeur and majesty, You would take an interest in my tiny mortal life. I dont understand it…but I dare to believe that it is so. In Jesusname, I pray. AMEN.
