Read: 2 Samuel 6:12–19

As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. 2 Samuel 6:16

There are moments, as infrequent as they may be, when we are so caught up in joy that we could literally dance in the streets. A prayer has been answered or a burden has been lifted or an opportunity has opened up for us that made our spirit leap with gratitude, and our bodies were willing to follow in the celebration! That was David’s response when he brought the Ark of the Covenant—the symbolic presence of God—into Jerusalem. David danced wildly, and half naked before the Ark, in the sight of all his people. His wife, Michal, was horrified by what seemed to her to be a vulgar display of emotionalism. However, when the Spirit of the Lord seizes you, when abounding joy captivates your life, you just can’t help yourself!

When was the last time you were completely filled with joy?

Lord, it is not often when I am entirely and joyfully enraptured by Your presence. There have certainly been moments when Your presence in my life has prompted within me an irrepressible joy. I may not have danced in the streets, but my heart certainly leapt with gratitude. I wish this were a more common occurrence for me. Maybe, like David, I have to usher You into my life, as he ushered You into Jerusalem, if I want to experience that kind of ecstatic and joyous reunion. I open my life up to You anew today. Enter in. I am ready to dance! In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. AMEN.
