Read: Psalm 3

Deliverance belongs to the Lord; may your blessing be on your people! Psalm 3:8

At some point, each one of us has to decide who is in charge. Who orders our lives? Are we the sole directors of our circumstance? Or does a boss or a spouse or a teacher rule our days? Are we marionettes manipulated by people who can pull strings in our lives? Or were we created for something more?

We all choose who orchestrates our situation in life. We can allow others to unduly influence our direction, or we can seize control ourselves and run our lives in any way that pleases us. Both of these courses, however, can often lead to our ruin. Perhaps we should entrust our lives to the One who watches over us when we sleep, who wakes us up in the morning, and who sustains us throughout the day.

How can you allow God to take a leading role in your life?

Lord, it must look like a train wreck to You at times. Our lives are piled up in a cascading collision of bad decisions, poor timing, and lack of foresight. We choose to follow our own whims, or we let someone other than You guide our lives…and we wonder why we find ourselves in so many predicaments. Lord, help me to put You first, and let me know what that actually means. In Jesus’ name, I pray. AMEN.
