We are again offering Walking the Journey Together, a multi-week divorce support and healing group, which will meet on Monday evenings in the Church Parlor, from 7:00 to 8:30pm, beginning Monday, September 29, 2014. The group is a Christian faith-based program intended to provide a safe and confidential haven to support healing from the pain of divorce. As before, it will be co-facilitated by a commissioned Stephen Minister of the church, Shawn Gardner, and Nicole Zasowski, LSMFT, a licensed counselor from The Center for Hope and Renewal in Greenwich, Connecticut.
“We are offering this group again, because there is such an enormous need for this kind of support for those going through the pain and isolation of divorce, and there just isn’t any support of this kind available locally,” said co-leader Shawn Gardner. “The church and I wanted to help fill this gap, which is why we started this program last spring. People who participated in that group told me afterwards that it was a ‘life saver.’ They were so grateful for the coping tips that Nicole and I shared with them, and for the trust they developed with others in the group, all of which helped them to not feel so alone in what they were experiencing.”
The group is for anyone in the early stages of divorce. Each session will include information presented by the co-leaders with the majority of the time for discussion and sharing. Topics that will be covered include the stages of grief, loss, letting go of resentment, depression and loneliness, family and children, forgiveness, pitfalls of a new relationship, self-love and care. Participation in the group is free of charge and is open to church and non-church members. Pre-registration is required by calling Shawn Gardner at (203)273-1212, or Rev. Chris Delmar at (203)966-2651, x2.
